Legal BIM

BIM in all its glory provides benefits to our industry 100 fold. Unfortunately not everyone has cracked the legal aspects of using a BIM in a collaborative environment with todays current delivery systems. Design Build, CMaR and RFP's for construction are baby steps to Integrated Practice and a true collaborative environment using BIM. Michael J. Cremonese and Chad A. Wissinger have written an article at…

Linking process document to the BIM

Wondering what firms are doing that are getting their feet wet with BIM when it comes to documenting the process of design and construction. BIM is great for describing the physcial and property of the building but can the BIM also help in documenting or linking the e-mails, photos, RFI's, ASI's, change orders, as-buit, etc. decisions? Check out the article here at BIM Channel for a more indepth look at… Continue

BIM for Construction and Beyond... Birgitta Foster mentioned in Vela Systems Blog

A couple of weeks ago in Phoenix AZ there was a little conference, BIM Forum, where our very own Birgitta Foster gave a presentation about the Owner and BIM. (she will present her presentation at one of our BIM meetings this year.)

She is mentioned in a Vela Systems Blog here. The blogger mentioned Birgitta would like to synch the O&M data with the… Continue

January Meeting

Last Tuesday was our first meeting for 2010. Again we had a great turnout.

Thanks to the Cad Store for providing lunch. It is always so nice to be able to provide great information and a place where people can connect and eat a great lunch.

Thanks to Mathew for giving a very informative presentation on NCS and Revit. Mathew broke the National Cad Standard into it's modules and provided examples and tips in Revit that satisfied the NCS requirements or guidelines. Some… Continue

Revit Sites

So I am thinking of creating a presentation about Revit Site Tools. I did a quick presentation in December about the large site for the new APS Sports Complex I am working on. This exercise has allowed me to become very familiar with Revit's site tools and also in creating a process of what not to do and what to do when working with a site.

My questions to everyone are;

1 - has anyone tried using Revit's site tools and what was their experience.

2 - has anyone worked… Continue

December Meeting

We had another great meeting this month. We had 4 firms step up and present how their firms are using the latest technology and processes to create BIM.

Miller Bonded presented how, with the use of AutoCAD MEP, CAD Duct, and Navisworks they collaborate with the contractor and designers to create an accurate model of the future or existing facility. The models provide accurate coordination, phasing and cost for everyone working on the facility. Miller Bonded will present in February a… Continue

BIM in the 505

Next month marks the end of a full year of the 505 BIM User's Group. It has actually been 20 months since we started back in April of 2008. There has been such a strong interest and commitment from the AEC industry, including our sponsors (The CAD Store, Corbins Electric, ITT Technical Institute and Autodesk) who I don't think would have made it possilbe for this long. This new site or "Social Network" is intended for the members of the 505 BIM User's Group to basically "talk", collaborate,… Continue
