Event Description

Hello 505 BIMer’s!

Please join us for our,

505 BIM User’s Group February 2017 Monthly Meeting

Thursday February 9th at 11:30 at CNM's Advanced Technology Center room 108.

(Please park on south side of building off of Jefferson.  Enter West building near lobby, room 108 at end of hall.)

This month’s feature presentation is:

Iterative Energy and Daylighting Analysis for Early Design

This month’s presentation will include a live demo of iterative energy and daylighting analysis, and heating/cooling load calculations.  The presentation will also display an application of these methods in how they were used during the design phase of a design-build studio at UNM called ecoMOD – a sustainable, affordable, prefab home.

- This Sefaira Architecture add-in - Revit 2017 – Real-time Energy & Daylighting analysis in Revit with online model upload for optimization of a design iteration; including renewables.

 - Green Building Studio - Revit 2017 – obtain irradiance data for 3D rendered illuminance studies

 - HVAC Heating and Cooling Load Calculations - Revit 2017 – used to estimate extreme events: load considered maximum size for space/zone.  This topic includes a quick overview of occupant, plug, lighting schedules per space.

 Intentions:

The methods presented are not meant to be used for precision/validation like in energy modeling.  They are meant to assist and reduce assumptions during the design phases.  The value is found when comparing design iterations – calling for an informed decision to be made.

Presenter: Aaron Ketner

In December of 2014, Aaron accepted the position of Energy Analyst Intern, for an internship with Vibrantcy in Albuquerque, NM.

During his time at the University of New Mexico, Aaron has held six graduate teaching assistant positions at the UNM School of Architecture and Planning. In August of 2016, the Office of Graduate Studies awarded Aaron with the Graduate Studies Excellence Assistantship.

In the summer of 2016, Aaron was the recipient of the Schoeman Travel Endowment where he conducted independent research on Nordic healthcare architecture in Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark; studying the correlation between energy efficiency and sustainable design, with an improvement in the indoor healing environment - ultimately shortening the patient’s recovery and improving the quality of work from the doctors and staff.

Recently, Aaron has delved into research on environmental awareness, energy, economics & social cohesion within urban neighborhoods for his Masters Project.
