505 BIM User’s Group November 2019 Monthly Meeting

Thursday November 14th at 11:30 at CNM's Advanced Technology Center room 133. (THIS IS A NEW CLASSROOM!)

(Park on south side of building off of Jefferson.  Enter West building near lobby, room 133 at end of hall. Need parking pass so you are not towed or ticketed.)

This month's Presentation is:

Revit MEP—Electrical Design in 3D: Make Your Clients Happy

This class will illustrate how MEP electrical designers and engineers can utilize Revit to provide clients with more-accurate 3D representations of electrical elements without dramatically increasing design time. In an industry still heavily reliant on 2D deliverables for construction, it may be easy for electrical designers or engineers to produce traditional construction documents without exact 3D element placement. Revit electrical design is a drag-and-drop process in which exact 3D element placement may be missed (or ignored)—leading to coordination issues and client frustration, since some elements can’t be used for client elevations, sections, renderings, or virtual reality (VR) walk-throughs. This session will demonstrate content manipulation of Revit electrical fixtures and lighting families using parameters, filters, schedules, and tags for improved 3D representation.


  • Tomas Gallegos, Electrical Designer
    • Tomas Gallegos is an Electrical Designer with 16 years of experience in the MEP industry.  He has designed a variety of Electrical systems for Universities, K-12 education facilities, offices, government, laboratories and commercial buildings. In addition to electrical design, Tomas has developed rendering and animation abilities through many courses including Animation Mentors and Character Animation.  In his last four years with Bridgers & Paxton Consulting Engineers, he has had the opportunity to further enhance his electrical design skills with a focus on Lighting Analysis and Rendering Simulations.  He is a member of the B&P BIM Committee and a key contributor in the development of electrical content & processes as well as MEP renderings and videos.
  • Ron Balmer, BIM Manager, LEED AP, Revit Certified Professional
    • Ron Balmer has twenty six years of combined experience in MEP, Education, Architecture, Facilities Management and Industrial Engineering.  He has been an AutoCAD user since version 11, and a Revit user since 2009. His career began in drafting and design, then progressed through engineering and project management to BIM Management.  He is an Autodesk Certified Professional for AutoCAD, Revit Architecture and Revit MEP Mechanical and combines his software expertise with his training in Industrial Engineering and Lean Manufacturing to develop content and processes that are efficient and practical.  As a BIM Manager, he focuses on managing BIM Coordinators in regard to project setup, model management and Revit support while leading and directing all corporate BIM activities.
